burnd began with a formula developed by pediatrician Dr. Mark Mitchnick after years of seeing sunburned children and sunscreens that didn’t perform. He invented transparent zinc oxide, built a lab, and supplied major brands, but never found a sunscreen he trusted for his own family. So he made one himself. That formula became burnd.

Years later, after moving to Costa Rica and struggling to find a sunscreen that worked as well, his son asked him to bring back the original formula. What started as a product shared with friends became a company built around a simple goal: creating a small system of high-performance products that genuinely work, with full transparency and no unnecessary noise.
